We are a medical massage practice and these are the questions we most frequently face:
FAQ’S
Does it hurt to get a massage?
At times it may be uncomfortable in areas that are injured or stressed.
A good therapist knows how to work with the patient's tolerance.
You may experience soreness after a massage due to the body's natural removal
of chemicals that have been released from areas that are tight and/or injured.
Drinking plenty of water following a massage helps the body to flush these
chemicals.
How long a massage should I schedule?
It is recommended that your first massage with a new therapist be 30 minutes.
Although the visit is brief, this is a comfortable time to meet the therapist and
determine if you are comfortable with his/her personality and abilities.
Can I eat or drink before my massage?
It is fine to eat and drink before a massage. However, remember that if your
stomach or bladder is full, you may be uncomfortable lying down.
Does Go to Health Massage Therapy take insurance?
At this time there is only one HMO that helps with massage visits. We do accept
some cases of workman’s compensation and no-fault insurance. Call for information.
Do you have to take your clothes off for a massage?
The only area of your body that is uncovered during a massage is where the
work is being done, therefore, you will remain partially clothed.
Do you treat sports and other injuries?
Yes. We have extra training (beyond New York State requirements) and are
certified in orthopedic massage; specifically to treat injuries such as sudden
impact, strains, sprains, and repetitive motion conditions. Massage helps
relieve pain and speeds recovery from acute injuries.
Can you combine massage with other forms of treatment?
Yes. Massage is an excellent practice to combine with chiropractic, acupuncture,
physical therapy, and traditional medical treatments.
